AKEA is a social enterprise founded in 2022 by Managing Director Nagwa Yassin.
The definition of a social enterprise or social business is "a firm with specified social aims that fulfil its principal purpose."
Nagwa Yassin is a community development worker and Eritrean community leader in Victoria focusing on women. She worked in a variety of roles across the community services sector in Melbourne for over 25 years including: youth work, settlement support, family and parenting support, disability support and cultural consultancy to organisations. Nagwa specialises in the development of education, training, leisure and cultural programs for immigrant women and young people
'To empower the community through the growth of young people and women'
-Empowerment- Women and young people of Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities need to be emboldened to face life's challenges and obstacles
-Unity-As a society we must all get along to prosper
Integration- Refugees and Diaspora need to retain their identity whilst creating a sense of belonging.
-Social Change-We strongly believe that we should all participate in the change we want to see
Akea was created with the intention of providing an inclusive, community-oriented dining experience for all. A portion of the profits go back into the community. This will help to fund the training, programs, actvivities, tours and workshops.
We hope to spread our ideals around the world and open more branches in the future
